STIs & BBV

STIs (sexually transmissible infections) are infections that can be passed on during sexual contact. This includes oral, anal, and vaginal sex, as well as some skin-to-skin play. BBVs (blood-borne viruses) like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV spread when blood from one person enters another person’s bloodstream.

This can happen through sharing injecting equipment or needles, reusing unsterilised piercing gear, or getting tattoos in places that do not use safe, sterile tools, including some overseas spots. Knowing the risks helps you make choices that keep your sex and pleasure safe without killing the vibe.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) attacks the immune system and spreads through blood, body fluids during sex, needle sharing, or from mother to baby.

With treatment, people with HIV can stay healthy and prevent transmission. We’ll cover how it spreads, symptoms, and prevention like PrEP and condoms to help you stay informed and safe.

HPV is a common virus spread through skin contact during sex. Most people get it without knowing. Some types cause warts, others can raise cervical cancer risk.

Vaccines protect against the worst types. We’ll cover how it spreads, symptoms, and protection so you can decide what’s best.

Syphilis is a bacterial infection that spreads through direct contact with a sore during vaginal, anal, or oral sex. It can cause symptoms like sores, rashes, and flu-like feelings but sometimes has no symptoms at all.

We’ll cover how it spreads, signs to watch for, and the importance of testing and treatment so you can stay safe and healthy.

Mpox is a viral infection that spreads through close skin-to-skin contact, including during sex. It causes flu-like symptoms and a distinctive rash or sores.

While usually mild, mpox can be uncomfortable and contagious. We’ll cover how it spreads, what to look out for, and how to protect yourself and others so you can stay informed and safe.

PrEP is a daily medicine people take to prevent HIV before they’re exposed. When taken consistently, it’s highly effective at stopping the virus from establishing itself in your body.

PrEP is a proactive way to protect yourself and stay in control of your sexual health. We’ll explain how it works, who it’s for, and how to access it so you can decide if it’s right for you.

Doxy-PEP is a way to reduce your risk of certain bacterial STIs after sex. It involves taking an antibiotic within a few days of condomless sex to help prevent infections like chlamydia and syphilis.

It’s not a cure or a replacement for condoms but an extra layer of protection. We’ll explain how it works, who it’s for, and how to use it safely so you can decide if it’s right for you.

External condoms are a thin, stretchy sheath worn over the penis during sex to help prevent pregnancy and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They’re easy to use, hormone-free, and work for many kinds of sex. Using condoms consistently and correctly is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your partners. We’ll cover how to use them, the different types available, and tips to make them feel better so you can enjoy safer sex with confidence.

Cervical screening is a simple test that checks for changes in your cervix before they become serious. It’s important for anyone with a cervix, including trans men, non-binary, and gender-diverse people, even if you don’t have periods or vaginal sex.
